- 1st Long Island Volunteers, 67th N.Y. Infy. 1st Brig. 3d Div. 6th Corps.
On rear:
- Held this position July 3rd; then moved double quick to left centre to resist Confederate charge upon our batteries.
On left:
- Accepted and mustered in as U.S. Volunteers June 20, 1861. Mustered out July 4, 1864. 320 re-enlisted veterans served through the war.
On right:
- Engaged in 23 battles; Army of the Potomac, Gettysburg, July 2d - 3d 1863.
Monument Details
Artist: O'Kelley, S. J., sculptor; Frederick & Field, fabricator
Dedicated: June 13, 1888
Dimensions: 14 ft. 4 in. x 6 ft. 4 in. x 6 ft. 4 in.
Description: A quincy granite carved vertical, narrow shaft and pedestal stand on a low, rough-hewn base. The Greek Cross Corps emblem is on the cap. A bronze tondo with the State Seal appears on the shaft. A bronze relief on the pedestal depicts a single uniformed soldier standing with arms reversed on a field amid a knapsack, drum, kepi and broken musket. An inscription on the relief reads, "It is over." These three elements are on the front of the monument.
